Effect of dye industry effluent on germination and growth performance of two rabi crops

Ten seeds each of Triticum aestivum cultivars Lok-1 and WH-147 and Cicer arietinum cultivars Kabul and Desi were treated with 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% base and caustic yellow dye effluent. The germination of wheat and chickpea decreased at higher effluent concentrations, with the reduction being higher with caustic yellow than base dye treatment. Low concentration (25%) of both effluents slightly increased the germination rate of WH-147 and Desi compared to the control.
