Effect of ecological factors on total free amino acids contents in the silk gland of a multivoltine silkworm, Bombyx mori Linn

The effects of temperature (14, 18, 22, 26, 30 and 34 degrees C), relative humidity (33, 50, 65 and 80%) and photoperiod regimes (6, 12, 18 and 24 h) on the total free amino acid content in the silk gland of silkworms (B. mori; race Nistari) were determined. The total free amino acid content in the silk gland of silkworms increased with increasing temperature up to 26 degrees C and photoperiod regime up to 12 h, followed by a decrease with further increase in the temperature and photoperiod.
