The effect of ethylene absorbents (newspaper impregnated with KMnO4 at 2 g/litre, chalk impregnated with KMnO4 at 2 g/litre, silica gel impregnated with KMnO4, and calcium oxide impregnated with KMnO4) on guava L-49 fruits packed in corrugated fibre board boxes and stored at room temperature (34.7 degrees C and 80% RH) for 8 days was studied. Weight loss and rotting percentage increased with the increase in storage period.
