Effect of exogenous leptin on the histology of the tunica mucosa of neonatal piglets

Effect of exogenous leptin on the histology of the tunica mucosa of neonatal piglets

Folia Universitatis Agriculturae Stetinensis, Zootechnica (43): 25-30

Twelve newborn piglets were randomly divided into two groups. Piglets were given either 5 ml 0.9% NaCl (control group) or leptin (10 micro g/kg body weight, leptin group) via stomach tube thrice a day for 6 days. At the 7th d of life, the piglets were sacrificed, and samples of the small intestine were collected for histological examination. Administration of exogenous leptin caused a significant decrease in the number of villi in the jejunum and ileum.
