Effect of exotic tree plantations on plant diversity and biological soil fertility in the Congo Savanna: with special reference to eucalypts: 43-48



The effect of changing environment on free-living and plant parasitic nematode populations in eucalypt (Eucalyptus) plantations and savanna in Congo was studied. The susceptibility of eucalypts to Xiphinema parasetariae, the major plant parasitic nematode found in the eucalypt plantations, was also studied in the laboratory. Dramatic changes in nematode population occurred when eucalypt trees were planted on the savanna.
