Effect of experimental zinc deficiency on immunological responses in foot and mouth disease vaccinated guinea pigs

Guinea pigs given zinc deficient or zinc adequate diets, containing 1.02 or 52 mg Zn/kg diet, respectively, were vaccinated with FMD 'O' type monovalent vaccine on the 2nd week and challenged with FMD 'O' type 100000 TCID50 virus on the 5th week. Cellular and humoral immune responses to FMD vaccination were assessed by delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) and serum neutralization (SN) test. Post challenge viraemia was assessed in plasma.
