Effect of film mulched cultivation on growth and some physiological characteristics of rice

The growth response and some physiological characteristics of plastic film mulched rice and conventional flooded rice in field conditions were investigated. Results showed that film-mulched rice plants tillered more rapidly and profusely, giving rise to 168% more tillers as compared to flooding-cultivated rice plants. Film-mulching showed significantly higher nitrate reductase (NR) activity as well as enhanced oxidizing power and NR activity of rice roots.
