Effect of health status during the receiving period on subsequent feedlot performance and carcass characteristics

Effect of health status during the receiving period on subsequent feedlot performance and carcass characteristics

Animal Science Research Report Agricultural Experiment Station, Oklahoma State University (P-986): 3 pp.

One-hundred-sixty crossbred heifers (317+or-22 kg) were fed to determine the effect of previous health status on subsequent feedlot performance. Upon entry into the receiving yard, heifers had an average weight of 255+or-16 kg and gained 0.77 kg/day during a 42-day receiving period. During the finishing period, heifers were allocated by previous health status into one of two treatments: (1) not treated in the receiving yard, or (2) treated once in the receiving yard.
