Effects of inhaling lemon oil vapour or its components on ether stress-induced plasma ACTH level on female rats was studied. Ether stress-induced increasing plasma ACTH levels were reduced by inhalation of lemon oil vapour. The main component of lemon oil, (-) limonene exhibited weaker effect than that of lemon oil but was not affected by (+) limonene or (+or-) limonene and citral.
