An investigation was conducted in Uttar Pradesh, India to determine the effect of intercropping and spacing of lentils (cv. HU-4-11) and tomatoes (cv. Pusa Ruby) on the incidence of infestation during the winter season of 1996-97. Treatments comprised: three spacings (30, 45 and 60 cm), sole lentil, sole tomato and two ratios of lentils:tomatoes (1:1 and 2:1). Tomato fruit borer (Helicoverpa armigera) heavily infested sole tomato plots compared to all intercrop treatments.
