Effect of ionizing radiations on germination and emergence of cowpea seeds

The effects of ionizing radiation in cowpea C-152 was studied. Seeds were irradiated with 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 kR gamma rays, and sown in Dharwad, Karnataka, India during the kharif season of 1999. In control and 10-kR treated seeds, 100 and 96% germination was observed, respectively. Here was a significant reduction in germination percentage with increasing irradiation level.
