The effect of some important legume crops (sweet lupin Merit, faba bean Local and pea Sikkim Local) on soil fertility and their influence on succeeding crops, viz. potato (cv. Kufri Jyoti) and rice (cv. Khumal-4) under modified cropping systems were investigated and compared with farmer practices during 1994-95 to 1998-99 at Khumaltar, Nepal. Results showed that potato and rice crops grown after legumes produced comparatively higher yields and biomass than the farmer practices.
