A field experiment was conducted during the kharif season of 1997 in New Delhi, India to determine the optimum level and date of application of N fertilizers on rice hybrid to maximize yield. Grain yield increased by 26 and 48% with each successive increment of 80 kg N/ha followed by a decline (by 17.5%) at 240 kg N/ha. High infertile spikelets were recorded with 3 N splits while 160 kg N/ha with 3 split applications had the highest grain yield (91 q/ha).
