Long-term fertilizer experiments were conducted in Jinxian, Jiangxi, China, in 1981-99 in paddy fields with a soil derived from red clay of the Quaternary period. The method for fractionation of organic phosphorus (OP), recommended by Bowman and Cole (1979), was used to study the effects of fertilizer application on soil OP. OP in the plough layer (225.93-322.47 mg/kg) accounted for 28.59-42.34% of total P.
