Effect of methods of storage on post-harvest losses and viability of seed rhizomes in turmeric (Curcuma longa L.)

An experiment on the effect of storage methods on the viability of turmeric Salem seed rhizomes was conducted in Karnataka, India in 2001. Rhizomes were stored in: underground pits in between dry sand layers (T1), underground pits in between wheat straw layers (T2), 250 gauge polyethylene bags with 0.5% area of vents and kept in laboratory (T3), zero energy cool chamber (T4), in heaps under a tree canopy and covered with turmeric leaves, i.e. heap method (control).
