Effect of residue management practices and nitrogen rates on chemical properties of soil in a rice (Oryza sativa)-wheat (Triticum aestivum) cropping system

In an experiment conducted during 1994-96 in New Delhi, India, when wheat (Triticum aestivum) residue was removed from the field, organic C, total N, available P and available K content of soil was either decreased or remained at the initial level. Burning of wheat residue in situ resulted in the decrease in organic C, total N and available P content but an increase in available K content of soil.
