Effect of seed ginger size on growth and yield of ginger (Zingiber officinale)

A field test with Z. officinale Laiwudajiang was conducted in 2000 in Laiwu, Shandong, China. The effects were investigated of seed ginger size (SGS, 100+or-5, 75+or-5, 50+or-5 and 25+or-5 g) on emergence, plant growth, rhizome growth and yield. Emergence was advanced by increasing SGS. Large SGS resulted in vigorous growth at the early stage. However, the largest and smallest sizes were not beneficial for rhizome growth and yield.
