Three- to six year-old Japanese pears (Pyrus pyrifolia Kosui) grafted on P. pyrifolia Nihonyamanashi were exposed to different levels of soil water potential during the fruit development stages under controlled glasshouse and greenhouse conditions. The effect of soil moisture status on stem and fruit diameters was monitored by a micromorphometric technique and its effect on fruit production and quality was also examined.
