Abstract
The effects of neem-based formulations (NSKE, Neemark, Nimbicidin, Neemta 2100, Aniloguard Plus and RD-9 Repelin) on the population of insect pests of sesame cv. Gujarat-1 were determined in a field experiment conducted in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India during 1997-99. Among the various treatments tested, NSKE (5%) was the most effective in reducing the pest populations. The commercial formulations did not show any definite trend in reducing the sesame pests, however, the most effective neem-based commercial formulation in controlling Bihar hairy caterpillar (Spilarctia obliqua), leaf webber and capsule borer (Antigastra catalaunalis) and sesame hawk moth (Acherontia styx) was Nimbicidin. Neemta-2100 was the most effective in controlling sesame gall fly (Asphondylia sesami).
