A study was conducted to investigate the explosion pulping of triploid Populus tomentosa at low pressure. Results showed that both explosion pressure and lignin influenced the brightness of the explosion pulp. The higher the pressure, the lower the brightness of explosion pulp was obtained. The fibres were separated and the brown stock reached 50% when 4% Na2CO3 and 12% NaSO3 were added and exploded at 1.0 MPa.
