Abstract
Awassi and East Friesian x Awassi lambs weighing 20 kg were fattened with intensive lamb feed and lucerne hay ad libitum until they reached 45 kg body weight, after which they were slaughtered. It was shown that average daily liveweight gain, feed consumption, carcass weight and dressing percentage were 225 and 222 g, 5.98 and 5.15 kg, 21.80 and 20.93 kg and 48.31 and 44.79% for Awassi and crossbred lambs, respectively. Percentage of rear leg, fore leg and tail fat were 31.04, 16.78 and 11.60% in Awassi lambs and 30.79, 18.37 and 1.72% in crossbred lambs, respectively. The difference in tail fat between both groups was significant (P<0.01). MLD areas and backfat thickness were 19.08 and 16.082 and 16.35 and 6.1 mm for Awassi and crossbred lambs, respectively.
