Feeding ecology of Nilgiri Langur (Trachypithecus johnii) in Silent Valley National Park, Kerala, India

Feeding ecology of Nilgiri Langur (Trachypithecus johnii) in Silent Valley National Park, Kerala, India

Indian Forester 127(10): 1155-1164

The feeding ecology of Nilgiri Langur (Trachypithecus johnii) was studied in the rain forest ecosystem of Silent Valley National Park, Kerala, India, during 1993-96. A clear dominance of foliage was obvious in the diet of Nilgir Langur, but other food items like fruits, seeds and flowers were also observed. The proportion of different food items varied considerably from month to month. Eighty-nine food species were identified through direct observations.
