Frugivory by birds in a fragmented landscape: consequences for seed dispersal

The effect of frugivorous birds on seed dispersal in a fragmented landscape were studied in an area of Veracruz, Mexico, now occupied by fragments of tropical semi-deciduous forest and dry deciduous forest, grassland and shrubby patches of sand dune. The four characteristics related to seed dispersal by birds were determined: the interacting species of plants and birds; the characteristics of these species; spatio-temporal variation of the dispersal system; and the outcome of the process.
