Genetic analysis of milking rate, somatic cell count and udder conformation

Genetic analysis of milking rate, somatic cell count and udder conformation

ITEA 22(1): 30-35

Data on 8441 Friesian cows in Spain were analysed. The heritabilities of milking rate, somatic cell count, udder texture, udder depth, position of the rear teats, position of the front teats and teat length were 0.12, 0.16, 0.09, 0.30, 0.26, 0.26 and 0.31 respectively. There were significant genetic correlations of milking rate with somatic cell count (-0.59), udder texture (-0.42), position of the front teats (-0.24) and teat length (0.24).
