Genetic engineering of crop for insect resistance and its biosafety

Genetically engineered crop resistance to insects and pests offers a method of crop protection. In this review, primary focus is given on those genes with demonstrated effects in transgenic plants, including Bt toxin genes and those derived from plants, such as proteinase inhibitor genes, alpha -amylase inhibitor genes and lectin genes.
