Genetic identification of a new small grain dwarf gene in rice

Chinese Journal of Rice Science 17(2): 100-104

Rice line 162d is a new small grain dwarf mutant derived from Shuhui 162 through mutation. Shuhui 162 and 162d are near isogenic rice lines. Genetic analyses of the F1 and F2 populations showed that the dwarfism of 162d was controlled by a recessive gene. Phenotypic expression of the dwarf gene included a plant height of about one-fourth of the normal, a grain volume of about one-fourth of the normal, very low seed set, and short broad leaves.
