In animal production, some traits exhibit a limited number of values. These so-called discrete traits are often involved in the description of quality traits. Until now, few genetic studies were dedicated to discrete traits. Recent development of relevant models and methods allows for thorough analyses. Many traits are involved, from lameness to feather colour.
