Genetic parameter estimates of survival, productivity and derived biological efficiency traits in Horro sheep of Ethiopia

Genetic parameters of total birth weight (TBW), number (NLW) and weight (TWW) of lambs weaned per lambing, TWW per unit and metabolic (W0.75) weight of ewe at joining (WWKG and WWMKG, respectively), kleiber ratio (KR), and lamb survival to weaning were estimated for Horro sheep between 1978 to 1997 using the ASREML programme. It was shown that heritability estimates of TBW, TWW, WWKG, WWMKG, NLW, KR and survival were 0.09, 0.05, 0.03, 0.03, 0.06, 0.09 and 0.02, respectively.
