Genetic parameters of mammary gland morphological characters in Lacho sheep and the responses to different selection indices

For 2914 Lacho ewes in Spain, selected for milk yield over a period of 10 years, the scores (on a 9-point scale) for udder depth, udder position, teat position and teat length averaged 6.3+or-1.23, 5.2+or-1.34, 4.19+or-1.60 and 4.94+or-1.28 respectively, and lactation milk yield averaged 155+or-59.39 litres. The heritability of the 4 characters was 0.197, 0.190, 0.344, 0.346 and 0.206 respectively.
