Genetic variability of callus initiation and plant regeneration were investigated among three sugarbeet genotypes. Thidiazuron (TDZ) had a genotype-independent effect on callus initiation and was responsible for more than a two-fold increase in the friable callus induction rate and more than a three-fold increase in the shoot regeneration rate from this callus.
