Abstract
Mutations were induced in six cultivated and wild barley accessions by gamma rays at 100, 200, 300 and 400 Gy. A large number of mutants for various plant characters including plant height, panicle length, maturity period, tillering ability and grain colour were derived from M2-treated populations. Promising dwarf and early maturing types were observed. Mutation frequency and spectrum are highest and lowest in accessions EC-312415 and K-272, respectively.
