Kinetic modelling of sucrose metabolism: a powerful predictive tool for genetic manipulation of sugar content in sugarcane

Kinetic modelling of sucrose metabolism: a powerful predictive tool for genetic manipulation of sugar content in sugarcane

Proceedings of the Annual Congress South African Sugar Technologists' Association (75): 99-100

A kinetic model that aims of predicting the most likely control points of the processes leading to sucrose accumulation is described. Initially, the model described the cytosolic reactions, including hexose uptake, sucrose synthesis and breakdown, and loading of sucrose into the vacuole. Current modifications include sucrose uptake from the cytosol, hydrolysis of sucrose in the vacuole and return of sugars from the vacuole.
