The dry period is a crucial phase of the lactation cycle that has great importance in managing udder health and improving overall periparturient health. Changes in the metabolic, physiologic, immunologic, and nutritional needs of the dry cow that occur during this time can significantly influence overall performance in the next lactation and require consideration in designing management programs.
