Methodological considerations on establishing permanent observation plots in natural forest and forest plantations

Methodological considerations on establishing permanent observation plots in natural forest and forest plantations

Revista Forestal Centroamericana (39/40): 6-12

The principle objective of this article is to contribute to a better understanding of the statistical aspects of the establishment of permanent plots and the interpretation of data from them. There are two main parts. The first discusses the design of sample plots and experimental plots, and of what might be termed a 'hybrid' type of plot - plots established for the purpose of comparative observations, often used for silvicultural and ecological studies.
