Milk recording and automatic milking systems: features and simplification possibilities of recording procedures

In 14 herds using automatic milking systems, variation in 24 h milk yield and milk composition was studied. Milk from all cows were recorded and sampled for all milkings of a test day. Results show an important effect of daytime, time interval since last milking, and lactation stage on milk production and composition. Reducing time test to 12 h instead of 24 h seemed possible. Estimation of fat and protein yields and contents was precise enough for genetic and management applications.
