Nest site selection of Siberian Tits Parus cinctus at different landscape levels

Nest site selection of Siberian Tits Parus cinctus at different landscape levels

Avian landscape ecology: pure and applied issues in the large scale ecology of birds Proceedings of the eleventh annual IALEUK conference, University of East Anglia, UK, 10-13 September 2002: 81-86

The number of breeding Siberian Tits Parus cinctus has declined drastically in Fennoscandia, probably due to forestry practices in recent decades. We studied the effect of forestry on a population breeding in nest boxes in moderately managed forests at the southern border of the species range in Kuusamo, Finland. Fifty-two randomly chosen nest sites were included in a detailed vegetation and landscape analysis.
