Objectives, technical approaches and practices of hybrid rice breeding in mountainous areas of Guizhou, China

Hybrid Rice 18(1): 13-14

Breeding objectives for rice in the mountain areas of Guizhou, China, include high grain yield, resistance to rice blast tolerance of cold temperatures, fine grain quality, and a moderate growth period. A new breeding method was designed to try to develop rice hybrids containing some of these traits. Through the synchronous screening of lines at a number of ecologically different locations a group of new restorer lines and their hybrids were successfully developed.
