Path-coefficient analysis of some characters affecting fruit sweetness in melon (Cucumis melo ssp.)

Path-coefficient analysis of some characters affecting fruit sweetness in melon (Cucumis melo ssp.)

Journal of the Korean Society for Horticultural Science 44(5): 661-665

A study was conducted to elucidate the important characteristics that contribute to sweetness in melon fruits. Fifty melon accessions were evaluated in terms of sweetness, soluble solids, total sugar, sour taste and sugar components. Sucrose, glucose, fructose, galactose, stachyose, raffinose and an unknown sugar accumulated in the melon fruits. Of the total sugar, sucrose, fructose and glucose accounted for 53.5, 25.0 and 21.0%, respectively.
