Anther and microspore cultures are successfully used for haploid and dihaploid plant production in different crops. The development of haploid plants and the subsequent production of homozygous lines is of a great interest to plant breeders. In vitro androgenesis can significantly shorten the period which is necessary for obtaining homozygous plants by selfing, as homozygosity can be achieved in one generation.
