Sugar processing opportunities for the future will be determined by the availability of new technologies and modern equipment allowing new challenges to the sugar industry worldwide to be met. Because of different processing methods, strategies vary for the beet and cane sugar industries. Reduction or complete elimination of lime usage has been a focus of research efforts in the beet industry.
