The effect of sucrose accumulation in stems on the activities of sucrose-phosphate synthase (SPS), sucrose synthase (SS), neutral invertase ( beta -fructofuranosidase) (NI), and soluble acid invertase ( beta -fructofuranosidase) (SAI) were studied in sugarcane (cultivars ZMex 55-32, Mex 69-290, Mex 57-473, and Rb 765418) plants micropropagated from callus cultures. Stem sucrose concentration increased until the 7th month in Zmex 55-32.
