Resistance to Phytophthora infestans in potato induced with plant extracts

Tissues and extracts from 24 plant species were screened for their inhibitory effect on encysted zoospore germination (EZG), appressorium formation (AF) and penetration hypha formation (PHF) of P. infestans in potato. Tissues obtained from 6 species, i.e. Zanthoxylum bungeanum Syringa oblata, Allium ramosum, Allium sativum, Allium fistulosum and Allium cepa recorded relatively low EZG values (between 3.2 and 7.3%) and exhibited complete inhibition of AF.
