The relationship between the solubility and toxicity of 29 herbicides was studied by conventional rate-response methods using Chlamydomonas reinhardtii strains CC-1010+ and CC-2342. CC-1010+ was more tolerant of aclonifen, chlorsulfuron, clopyralid, dimethenamid, fluthiamide, isoproturon, metazachlor, and triasulfuron than CC-2342; the latter strain, however, was more tolerant of alachlor, atrazine, chlorpropham, diuron, metsulfuron-methyl and pendimethalin than the former.
