Response of sorghum to in situ water conservation practices

Sorghum cultivar CO 26 was sown at a spacing of 45 x 15 cm on 22 July 1999 and 4 August 2000. The water conservation treatments consisted on the broad bed and furrow (BBF) system, compartmental bunding, random-tied ridges and a farmers' practices control. Rainfall received during the cropping period totalled 483 mm in 1999 and 511 mm in 2000. All techniques significantly improved growth, yield attributes and yield of rainfed sorghum.
