A study was conducted in Parana, Brazil, to evaluate the effect of different sowing dates (15 October, 30 October, 15 November, 30 November and 15 December) on the physiological seed quality of five soyabean (Glycine max) cultivars (BRS 132, BRS 133, BR 16, BRS 134 and Ft-Estrela), and to determine the best sowing period to produce seeds with better quality in 1999/2000. The seeds obtained were evaluated by germination test (first and final count), classification of seedling vigour and accelerated aging. Sowing between 3 and 20 November, depending on the cultivar, was more favourable to obtain seeds with the highest physiological quality.
