Abstract
The changes in the metabolic profile of cows in the dry period (n=20) and at various stages of lactation (n=60) were determined. Results of the variance analysis showed no significant difference in the levels of urea, alkaline phosphatase and inorganic phosphorus in cows during the dry period and the different stages of lactation. On the other hand, significant differences (P<=0.001) were observed for the levels of glucose, total lipid, total cholesterol, total protein, uric acid, sodium, potassium and calcium in cows during the dry period and the different stages of lactation. These results indicate that various physiological conditions such as the dry period and lactation can alter the metabolic profiles of cows.
