The course of watermelon breeding and germplasm bases of watermelon cultivars in USA

The course of watermelon breeding and germplasm bases of watermelon cultivars in USA

Acta Horticulturae Sinica 30(3): 366-369

This review focuses on watermelon breeding in the USA during 1870-2001, its history and its three stages. An analysis is presented of the pedigrees of 91 crossbred and inbred cultivars of 235 released watermelon cultivars, and the genetic contribution of their direct and ancestral parents is discussed.
