The influence of tannin content on seed value of faba bean (Vicia faba L.)

The influence of tannins contained by faba bean seeds on seed germination, vigour, health, field emergence, yield and yield components was investigated. Seeds of high (from 1 to 1.7%) and low tannin content (0.03% in dry matter) were used for this study. The seeds with low and high tannin content had germination of 73 and 91%, respectively. Vigour of the low-tannin seeds was weaker than that of the high-tannin ones.
