Building an efficient rural financial system is essential in order to improve the living standards of the rural population. However economic policies pursued in Romania are considered to have had an urban bias, favouring the development of industry and urban zones over the development of agriculture and the countryside as a whole. It is argued that crisis in rural financial markets can exert pressure on the budget and therefore macroeconomic stability.
