A study on the rate of prevalence, fertility and viability of the protoscolices of hydatid cyst of E. granulosus in sheep slaughtered in Fars industrial slaughterhouse

A study on the rate of prevalence, fertility and viability of the protoscolices of hydatid cyst of E. granulosus in sheep slaughtered in Fars industrial slaughterhouse

Iranian Journal of Veterinary Research 5(1(Ser.9)): 113-121

Hydatidosis is regarded as one of the most important parasitic zoonoses in Iran. Echinococcus granulosus - the adult stage - lives in the small intestine of dogs (final host) and hydatid cyst - the immature stages - occurs in different organs of the sheep, goats, etc. (intermediate hosts). The final host can be infected only via ingestion of fertile and viable cysts.
